Lecture experience
Exploring the relationship between humans & nature and the potential role of nowadays artists in foresting reflection and awareness.
eARTh
The lecture examines the human-nature relationship. evolution and what artists can do today to respond creatively to this ecological and sociological change.
The first thing I observed during my research was the expression “human-nature”, which suggests a hierarchy of importance and a clear distinction between the two terms.
Indeed, if we hold the view that our species belongs to the animal one, then why don’t we say ‘nature-human’ or simply just ‘nature’?
Using this observation as a springboard for the talk, I investigated philosophical and scientific studies that might have clarified how modern civilisation developed and the reasons for our adoption of an antropocentric model rather than a biocentric one.
The lecture explores different matters like the ones just mentioned, moving forward, looking into animism, forest bathing practice, and so on, until discussing the potential role of today’s artist in raising awareness of the environmental crisis.
